As this year draws to a close, we need to plan ahead for the next school year coming. Even though we all need time to recover from this past school year, we also need to keep in mind that our initiative is still in the planning phases and we cannot lose momentum or purpose over the summer. To ensure that we all remain on the same page when we return to school to actually try to put this plan into effect, we will need to rely on this blog. About a week prior to classes starting, both schools will begin posting recaps about our plan and purpose. When we return to school, we will schedule a pre-meeting meeting. We will touch base with each other and set up any further planning that needs to take place prior to the initial training. Please set up an RSS feed to this blog so you can remain up to date in case Kathy or I find any more useful information over the break. Remember to reference the blog for the scheduled meetings so far. Any concerns or studies that build over the summer can be posted to our blog for everyone to see.
Thank you for your support through the planning stages of this intuitive and we will see you in September.

implementation plan
implementation plan for williamstown middleschool
Implementation Plan and Schedule
a. Implementation Team:
At Williamstown Middle School:
-Valerie Phillips: (5th grade math and Language Teacher-2 years experience, with 2 past years of 6th grade math experience) vphillips@monroetwp.k12.nj.us
- Deidre Drawdy (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grade math teacher- 5 years experience)
ddrawdy@monroetwp.k12.nj.us
- Jonathan Henninger (Board of Ed Webmaster-1st year in district)
jhenninger@monroetwp.k12.nj.us
- Jennifer McCartney (5th grade science teacher-5 years experience)
jmccartney@monroetwp.k12.nj.us
- Debbie and Mark Broadbelt (middle school science teacher- 3 5 years experience)
bbelts@gmail.com
b. Project Implementation Plan Including those Responsible:
Equipment purchase and installation
Valerie: Our school does not have the flip cameras yet. We will be using our technology budget to purchase 10 Flip Cameras. This will allow each of our committee members to use one for the trial run and have 5 extra, one for each grade level and one for the technology classroom. After the first year of this pilot implementation, we would like to purchase enough to have 5 per grade level (one for each subject area and/or core). Once the cameras are purchased, over the summer, we will make sure all materials needed are put onto the server for individual downloads onto teacher and student laptops. Cameras will be housed in the rooms of the committee members, Debbie, Jennifer, and Deidre, the remainders will be housed in Denise Milam’s room, the technology advisor, and handout to other in the pilot group (to be determined in September). (Denise Milam)
Testing
Valerie: Upon arrival of the cameras, we will test the tools to be sure they work prior to the first day of school. This will be done over the summer with the assistance of John Henninger. (Valerie Phillips and John Henninger)
Training
Valerie: At our first few days of in-services in September, we will hand out the Flip Cameras and go over how to work them in the form of a mini-workshop run by me with the help of our Technology advisor. (Valerie Phillips and Denise Milam)
Evaluation
Valerie: As we work through our first year using the Flip Cameras, we will keep our blog up and running so at the end of each marking period, the participating teachers can take a survey so we can gain feedback to support our initiative when introducing it to the staff the following year. I will be reviewing the data and completing a summary of the answers to be posted as well. (Valerie Phillips)
c. Schedule for Implementation Plan:
Valerie: Our schedule will rotate with the Teaching and Learning Meetings already in place. These T&L meetings take place every other week by grade level. At this time, once a month, the participating in our Flip Camera Initiative will meet in our technology advisors room to discuss progress, success, and issues. The first day of our in-service for the year, we will have time allotted to get the initial training and materials handed out. Please see below for the date of the Flip Camera Initiative meetings (FCI):

Costs
Ok, here's the money end of this project...
Analyzing Costs and Establishing a Budget:
Installation: Technology staff at school can install on computers/laptops:
$0
Hardware: Depends on version
http://www.theflip.com/en-us/Products/specs.aspx (all come with wrist strap, soft protective case, user guide, built in USB arm/speaker/microphone).
$149.99 - $279.99
Accessories are available
http://www.theflip.com/en-us/Products/accessories.aspx:
$14.99 - $49.99.
Software: Comes preinstalled on Flip Camera for both PCs and Macs: $0
Maintenance: Flip Cameras come with a standard warranty
http://www.theflip.com/en-us/support/warranty.aspx. Any other questions can be directed to the customer support line (888-222-6689).: $0
Security: Product storage in technology department of school.
Teachers must sign out product. Any students handling Flip Cameras
must have previously signed the Williamstown Middle School or
St. Mark's High School User Policy Agreement Form.:
$0
Training: Training will be provided by someone who knows how to use
the Flip Cameras (someone in school preferably) after school.
Communication would be required amongst teachers participating in
the training. Technology department within the school would also be
available for questions/concerns/problems.:
$0
If we had unlimited money resources, that's a big IF, how many would you suggest we buy?
One a grade level?
One a subject per grade level? meaning one for 5th grade math, one for 5th grade science, one for 5th grade S.S., etc.
One per classroom?
A different option?
Thanks!

our plan solution>
Here's some more info about our technology initiative...let us know what you think....
Would you use it?
Would other teachers use it?
Do we need more info to sell this idea?
Specific Description of Technology:
Flip Video Cameras are small digital camcorders that are simple to use. It has a lens and microphone with very few buttons to operate. It comes equipped with spring-loaded USB drive and built-in software. This all makes it easy to record and upload onto ones computer. It can hold anywhere from one to four hours of recording, depending on the version. It allows for direct uploading on Myspace, Facebook, and YouTube. Video editing is also another feature that enables you to create movies with multiple video clips and add titles, music and credits to your recording. Software updates are available online.
Below are links that can enhance students’ learning:

http://docs.google.com/present/view?pli=1&id=dhn2vcv5_6tv55j7g9
Expected Outcomes:
The Flip Video Cameras will receive positive feedback from teachers and students. It has been shown from articles, websites, blogs and comments that teachers, who used the Flip Video Cameras, did indeed enjoy them and the students had a positive response to it as well. Teachers will find that these cameras are easy to use and upload. Because of the simplicity of this technology, teachers who normally shy away from technology, due to its complexity, will be more apt to try it out and potentially use the product. They will also find that it can be utilized in all subjects and grade levels. We expect Flip Video Cameras to be fully integrated without much effort into the classroom rather than used just once and then put on the shelf. Students will be able to take more meaningful lessons away due to their experiences with this technology we are introducing.
