  2. Along the same lines of what you have posted I was curious as to what I could find for cell phones. High school students are obviously addicted to them as they are attached to whatever part of their body they find convenient so why not look into educational uses for them? We are teaching a technology driven generation so why not use all of these tools to our advantage? This is just one website I found about a study done using cell phones:

There is tons more on the web...check it out!

  3. Getting the students to utilize, in the classroom, technology that they are already using at home is a great idea. I also think that it could be a great tool for just the teachers. From the video the Flip camera looks so easy to use. I think that teachers could start recording entire lessons and post them on a blog or YouTube easily. That way students who may have missed a day due to illness can always go an access the complete video of the lesson from that day. Plus it could help at study/review time for students who have trouble just studying from a book. They could simply go back to the lesson for a quick refresher.

  4. I love the idea of doing a video and then posting it to the web for students to see. If a student is homebound, he/she can still keep up with the class.
Also, more technology to consider, ipods are always attached to the hip on our kids. Podcasts are another great way to introduce audio or visual lessons to the students. They can have a set of them for use by the school and teachers can download material for the students to view. The video caught with the Flip Camera would be viewed by all students at once.

  5. Thanks for all the comments everyone!
In one of our earlier EDT classes, we had to make an instructional video. I used it in one of my classes as an addition to my teaching- it was such a great tool- I was able to double explain. After that I really considered doing podcasts and/or videos to post on my website for the kids to reference at home. I plan on starting that a little bit at a time and build up a library of them.
I'd love to learn ways to use cell phones in the class. And I wist we could get ipod carts-for our school...work on that Jon ha ha-just teasing! Maybe that can be my next initiative!

  6. i'm sorry, i'm not big on the cell phone idea. i've heard that they use it to take notes (really?) and polling (uh, raise your hand and count). the only thing i find cell phones useful for in school is looking things up on the internet. maybe asking a question and seeing who can find it first. this would be more ideal since a lot of schools only have 1-5 computers in the classroom. so some students can use that while the ones that have internet access on their phones could use those.

  7. i was talking about the flip cameras at breakfast and the family/consumer science teacher said that she would love to use the cameras in her home economics class. students could film themselves making a recipe at home or students can write up a recipe and film someone else making it showing how you have to be descriptive when writing b/c people may interpret things differently.
